I would recommend he simply discern from his family what might happen if he ended up formally DFd. He can tell them that they know full well that his new baby was conceived "in sin" and ask them what they would do with him (and his new family) if the congregation elders decided to DF him for it. If they would continue the status quo, then he should completely ignore the letter and the clowns who sent it. They have no authority unless he grants it to them. His main concern is his family members and therefore they should be the ones he deals with on the issue.

Any "single issue" faders or leavers around?
by Mad Sweeney ini doubt this will get a lot of response but here goes anyway.
.
anyone fading (or just left cold turkey) over a single issue (such as blood, pedophelia, or shunning, for example) who would be willing to return if the borg finally reformed that particular doctrine to your satisfaction?.

TONS of changes in the organization
by EndofMysteries innew songbook - removing all the old teachings and anything saying new world or new order.
no more bookstudies - (so no small indepedent comments, only brief congregationwide so not much discussion).
bible reading talk can 'read' only, no introduction or conclusion - again not allowing any input or thought.

Another fairly new arrangement: foreign language groups can no longer have separate meetings on a different time or day than their sponsoring congregation. They can have separate meetings but they have to be in the same Hall at the same time their English congregation is meeting. I think probably some CoBEs were getting upset that half their congregation was meeting at a different time, outside of his control.

To Ex-JWs: Do You Regret Learning it Was a Lie?
by leavingwt inthis question was inspired by a question on another thread.
to the ex-jw community here,.

"I think we'd all have to admit that we did not like discovering we had been deliberately lied to by a very clever and deceitful organization, and I was devastated when my world came crashing down around me."
>>>>>>>
What's more painful is that many of us have met many of those guys and they aren't all that clever, either. It's embarrassing to have fallen prey to a group of barely literate geezers. I'm as angry at myself as I am at them.

The Future New Lights (jw speak for corrections) Of the Illustrative GB
by frankiespeakin inthe scene of the world is changing and so must the jw religion in order to keep pace and keep losses in currant membership to a minimum and still offer an attractive lure for prospective new converts.
this must be done on a regular basis just to keep them afloat as old teachings were actually made by a group of old men with old ideas and old dates that have to give way to the obvious reality of unfulfilled predictions.. the wt publishing company has sought new blood in the way of younger men appointed to the high ranks of the gb,, some receiving their calling to the anointed latter than 1960 long after the once imposed cutoff date of 1935 for those with the heavenly calling.
i remember as an elder back in the 80's being told by the co not to count some in the congregation who were partaking of the emblems at the memorial, because they were not baptized early enough and the reason given was that they obviously had some emotional problems that caused them to make the claim and that counting them would throw the wt figures out of whack.. apparently the wt corporation's ceos are on the horns of a dilemma caused by their short sighted predictions and literal interpretations of the #144,000 in revelation, and adding to the mix of doctrinal problems is also the ever increasing scientific knowledge being taught in grammar, middle, and high schools much to the chagrin of bible fundamentalist who are seeking and even demanding equal time for their theory of intelligent design creationism.. will the wt go with the flow and learn from the catholic church(who at one time tortured and killed heretics) but now accepts the earth is not the center of the universe and who's leader the pope now claims the fact of evolution is not at odds with the bible?

Whatever they do, they need to do it before 2014, IMO. The psychological impact of being an entire century late (or early? how about just a century wrong?) is going to be heavy on many long-time JWs. 2010 itself seems to be affecting some of the rank and file. We're talking 96 years since Armageddon invisibly didn't happen. 96 years since the devil has supposedly come down here in great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time. There is no way to spin 96 years as a short period of time to any thinking people, let alone an entire century, and more and more JWs are beginning to think.

Let the "Tithing" begin!
by The Berean inlast night during the service meeting a letter was read indicating that more money was needed by jehovah's witnesses in order to expand the world-wide work .
it was suggested that each publisher take a piece of paper and write down the amount of money they would be willing to give and hand it to the elders.
it seems to be a cleverway to gather "seed money" by the organization while not calling it a "tithe.

I was hoping to skip meeting this week but this is too good an opportunity to put a big fat ZERO on there and maybe a few choice comments, as well.

The only way they can open up the 144k as figurative is if they really open it up to everyone. If they verbally open it up but still try to restrain people from the heavenly hope, A LOT of people will leave. It might end up worse than 1975.
What they probably should do is keep the 144K as a literal number of co-rulers while changing the definition of the great crowd of Rev 7:9, to place them in heaven as a non-ruling class. They can still have people living forever on earth, just not everyone who has died, and they can also thereafter require everyone to partake in the bread and wine so that nobody knows who's bound for where (it's in Jehovah's hands and not for us to judge).

I think the answer is different for people completely free than it is for people mentally free but still in physically. Over the past several months I have considered the thought of not having learned what I've learned about the WT and considered it's appeal. But there are some doors that once opened it isn't right to close or to wish closed even if it would make life easier in the short term. BTW, for those who don't know, I'm just starting a slow fade but have been Awake! for a few months now.

Is this our fate?
by paul from cleveland inis there fate?
if so, are we fated to be the bad evil slave?.
if the bible prophecies that there will be an 'evil slave that falls away and beats his fellow slaves because the master is delaying' doesn't that mean that someone has to fulfill that prophecy otherwise the prophecy would be false?

Assuming the Bible is God's word, I recommend you use an online Bible source with multiple translations and just read it by itself without any other literature and interpretative articles. Pray through Jesus Christ to his Father, then read a Bible book (I'd start with John, personally, then Romans), then pray again and sleep on what you just read. Do that every evening for a week instead of watching TV. No WT. No "Bible Teach" book. Just God's Word.
I think you'll feel a lot better about your relationship with God and Christ and your understanding of what the Bible REALLY Teaches.

I've been trying via Google but all I've got so far is that Dr. Bruce Metzger wrote an article entitled:
"The New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures" for "The Bible Translator" (a magazine?) in 1964. I find many NWT critics referencing it but can't find the article itself yet...
